Insurance

Although some insurance companies offer acupuncture coverage on select policies, most health insurance policies in Massachusetts do not cover acupuncture.

We are not currently in-network with any insurance companies. If you have a PPO plan that covers out-of-network acupuncture services we can provide you with a receipt containing all the information that you will need to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

To determine if you have acupuncture coverage you can call the member services telephone number on the back of your insurance card. If you need help in determining if you have coverage for acupuncture or if you need help determining if you were reimbursed correctly by your insurance company our staff will be happy to assist you.

Although acupuncture has been shown to effectively treat many conditions such as low back pain, morning sickness, chemotherapy-induced or post-surgical nausea and vomiting, headaches, migraines, osteoarthritis and much more, the demand for coverage has produced little impact, especially here in Massachusetts. We had hoped that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act would require that acupuncture be an "essential health benefit" and that coverage be required on all health insurance policies. However the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act left this decision to the states and Massachusetts declined to include acupuncture as an essential health benefit. Some states, such as Alaska, California, Maryland, New Jersey, New Mexico and Washington have opted to mandate that acupuncture coverage be included in all their health insurance policies. If you would like your insurance company to cover acupuncture, you need to make your voice heard! Let your insurance company, state and federal legislatures know that acupuncture is an important part of your healthcare and that you want insurance to cover it.
